2003 Church Chorals: Hymn/Anthems of Faith & Praise, Prayer & Thanksgiving
Developing SATB choirs will delight in singing this original work set to that most musical of words, "Alleluia." While the easy piano accompaniment is supportive throughout, it leaves space for the choir to sing "a cappella" style, one brief phrase at a time. Not only is this an excellent teaching piece, but the simple melodic and harmonic ideas are beautifully developed, making it a highly rewarding singing and listening experience for everyone.
Starting from a straightforward solo setting of the first verse, Dana Mengel has fashioned an infectious new setting of this evergreen title. In this version, the folk-hymn flavor of the original alternates with a Gospel Rock style that will really invigorate the choir and the congregation, which may join the choir in "sing-a-long" fashion for the final verse.
A striking setting of an original text, beautifully written for Alto solo with mixed choir by one of best new church choral writers of the day, this choral anthem is perfect for anniversary Sundays, All Saints Day, or mission-emphasis worship. The words state very clearly, the vision and purpose of the Christian Church, while calling believers to an accountability for responding to the challenge of life today. Musically, the piece is dynamic, lush and powerful, and incorporates the familiar hymn "Lead On, 0 King Eternal," that fits well with the spirit and message. An accompaniment track offers full instrument support for choirs and soloist.

Bradbury standard "The Solid Rock," excitingly employs the solo and response style building up to a powerful climax. Optional parts are available for saxes, brass, rhythm section and synthesizer. Guitar chords are also included in the octavo.

A delightful chorus taken from an early Mozart work, Offertorium Pro Omni Tempore, K.1 17, Jubilate has all the freshness and vitality you would expect from one of the greatest of all composers. Patrick M. Liebergen has expertly recast his 4-part Mixed chorus edition of the piece for SAB voices. It can be sung in either Latin or English.
CM8324 - SATB (original version) $1.50
A wonderfully straightforward and lively setting of Robert Lowry's celebrated gospel song (to a text by Issac Watts), that will stir choir and congregation equally. The flowing and supportive accompaniment will help to make this grand old tune easy for the choir to master in this firstrate setting by a master arranger.
Lowell Mason's classic standard hymn, made more familiar by its use in the movie, Titanic, has been arranged in a striking setting by one of the best hymn arrangers in church music today. Coarranged with friend and church pianist, Walter Knapp, this arrangement will gain greatly in impact if the optional string parts are employed. The comforting and prayerful thoughts of the text are reflected in the moving and emotional choral writing of this arrangement. This is a stunning setting of a great American hymn.
An original poetic and prayerful text is set to a simple, hymn-like melody in this piece, which focuses on the unbounded grace of God. Written in a straightforward four-part style, with verses and chorus, the SATB choral is easy to sing, but certainly full in sound. Incorporating an a cappella tag from the chorus of "Grace Greater Than Our Sin," by Julia H. Johnson and Daniel B. Townes, this anthem is an expert combination of contemporary sound and traditional church literature. Perfect for any service of worship and easily learned, this is a beautiful new addition to the church music repertoire.
A gracious and memorable original tune is combined with an unusually sensitive new harmonization of William Monk's celebrated hymn, "Abide with Me," in this easy and satisfying selection. The choir writing is simplicity itself, with the congregation and optional Flute in the unison setting of the last verse.
A grand and sweeping setting of Darwell's celebrated hymn to a stirring text by Charles Wesley, this anthem treats each verse differently, modulating from C to Db and D Major in the process. The middle verse (Db) is gently assured and the skillful modulation to the brighter key of D leads to the splendid affirmation of the final verse. This is a grand and easily prepared anthem of praise and rejoicing.
The beloved Folk melody best known as "Be Thou My Vision" (Slone) has been given a sensitive and radiant new setting, by Tom Fettke, to a lovely text by William D. Longstaff. The voice parts are graceful and involve some canonic writing. They will be easily mastered and the modulations to brighter keys (from Eb to E to F), enhance the deeply spiritual mood of this anthem.
A striking new anthem from Ruth Elaine Schram, which combines original material with the popular Alford/Elvery Thanksgiving hymn, "Come Ye Thankful People, Come." Easy to prepare and sing, this will be an ideal selection for Thanksgiving, involving as it does both choir and congregation and/or Children's Choir.
