Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming

The sensitive new setting of the ever-popular carol features a special treatment of each verse. Men's and women's voices hand off the melody throughout the first verse. The second verse offers a gorgeous alto solo, supported by gentle "Oos" from the choir. The third verse is a traditional a cappella setting, followed by a brief reprise of the first line of the alto solo, before the exquisite full-voiced closing phrase.

Ruth Schram has a true gift for writing for the needs of today's church choir and this Christmas anthem, which combines original material with two familiar tunes, 0 Come, Little Children and 0 Come All Ye Faithful, is no exception. The setting is just the perfect fit for many church choirs, with limited difficulty for the men and the exchange of melody between children's voices, women's and men's lines. The melody itself is lovely and the text summons us all to come to the Christ child.
