2003 Concert and School Chorals: Contest/Concert
Developing SATB choirs will delight in singing this original work set to that most musical of words, "Alleluia." While the easy piano accompaniment is supportive throughout, it leaves space for the choir to sing "a cappella" style, one brief phrase at a time. Not only is this an excellent teaching piece, but the simple melodic and harmonic ideas are beautifully developed, making it a highly rewarding singing and listening experience for everyone.
The choral writing of Natalie Sleeth needs no introduction, nor does her ingenious Fa-la-la Fantasie! Originally written for SATB voices, Greg Gilpin has masterfully arranged this standard for SAB and 2-part choirs. A cappella writing at its best is presented in this madrigal-style choral work, which gives individual vocal parts the opportunity to shine, while creating exciting patterns in conjunction with the other parts. Rhythmic energy and articulation are the key elements to making this selection perfect for holiday concert or contest performance.

Dean Rishel's skill as an arranger is beautifully demonstrated in this stunningly effective a cappella version of the well-known 19th Century American folk song. The four-part and occasionally six-part textures create a warm and thoughtful a cappella piece that will move and delight both choir and audience.
Russell Robinson is a noted expert in transcribing and arranging traditionally written madrigal-style SATB choral standards into 3-part mixed voicings suitable for middle school choirs. This 16th Century madrigal by Thomas Morley, has been skillfully arranged in a stunning a cappella version that is easy and can be successfully sung by a young teen group, with changing voices. A perfect selection for festivals, competitions and concerts alike, this piece is beautiful and impressive.
Carl Strommen has put his signature style of snazzy arranging into this exciting version of a popular spiritual, making it a perfect concert selection for SATB choirs. Beginning with a "dum dum" rhythmic motive in the men's voices, acting as a string bass effect and sound, and ending with the exciting climax of the "walls tumbling down," this rhythmically charged piece provides ample opportunities for a variety of effective choral expression.
A delightful chorus taken from an early Mozart work, Offertorium Pro Omni Tempore, K.117, Jubilate has all the freshness and vitality you would expect from one of the greatest of all composers. Patrick M. Liebergen has expertly recast his 4-part Mixed chorus edition of the piece for SAB voices. It can be sung in either Latin or English.

Creative in concept and simply beautiful in sound, this lush choral work will become a popular SATB performance piece for high school choirs. Using the famous Lord Byron poem of the same title set to a traditional English folk melody, Tom Fettke has created a gorgeous piece that singers and audiences will fall in love with. Long lyrical lines and careful text settings that enhance the singing will be reason enough for any director to choose this lovely work for concerts and for teaching.
