Using contemporary harmonies (often in 4ths and 2nds) the composer suggests the very qualities his title implies with music that is strong in profile, colorful in harmony and satisfying to play without being too challenging for the more inexperienced players. This is Larry Clark at his best and will have great appeal to the young musicians in every section of the ensemble.

Another skillfully written selection from a composer gifted with the ability to write well for younger players. Eclipsys couples melodic distinction with nice contrasts in playing style to create a substantial piece of music that will musically challenge a young ensemble without overly taxing its technical skill.

Every Time I Feel the Spirit
Spiritual; arranged by Virginia Croft

The cellos and basses playing pizzicato, get to lead-off in this vigorous arrangement of one of the best known of all spirituals. The slightly syncopated character of the spiritual will keep the violins on their toes and cellos and basses are also given a chance at the tune. This is a winsome arrangement that will be a delight to play and listen too.

Highbridge Way

Lively and tuneful, Highbridge Way gives each section a chance to play both melody and accompaniment. The writing for strings is expert and idiomatic and has nice contrasts of style (legato and detached) and texture that will give young players the sense that they are playing music of substance.
