A little different than the composer's first sonata for flute, Flute Sonata No. 2 is more dissonant and the musical ideas are epigrammatic in nature. In the first sonata, development of each theme is discrete from the next. In the second sonata, the development of ideas are often simultaneous creating a more 'cellular' sound. The second sonata is also in rondo form, a break from the more traditional ABA form found in the first sonata. A challenging piece, Sonata No. 2 is strong piece for a contemporary recital.
