Blue Water
Hear the thrill and excitement of being on the water in this delightful new piece from composer Yukiko Nishimura, which is whimsical and fresh. The triple meter gives the piece a lilt that establishes the sensation of sailing on the big ocean. Dies Irae: Fantasia
Deborah Baker Monday

Dies Irae: Fantasia
The Dies Irae is a hymn from the 13th century based on a poem describing the day of judgment, with the Latin words translating to mean “day of wrath.” Deborah Baker Monday has taken the Dies Irae and interspersed some of her favorite settings of the theme throughout her freely composed Fantasia. Students will enjoy exploring the many techniques used in composing this fantasy, and there is also the opportunity to have students engage in critical listening activities to recognize the Dies Irae in many musical masterpieces.

Vamos Exercises for the ViolinExercises for the Violin in Various Combinations of Double-Stops
By Roland Vamos
Foreword by Rachel Barton Pine

Book with DVD

Carl Fischer Music
BF67 - $24.99

•  The only method to employ a systematic series of fixed double-stops, enabling the
aspiring violinist or violist to practice and master every possible combination of finger patterns
      across two strings without shifting

•  Helps students develop a strong left hand so the fingers rise and drop consistently, landing on the same part of the finger

•  When practiced slowly and carefully, exercises help students develop a keen sense of pitch and intonation

The most direct way to describe the essence of the concept and benefits of these exercises for the aspiring violinist is to simply quote one of its students, as well as the creator himself. From Rachel Barton Pine: “Vamos’s double-stop exercises fill a void in the literature of technical exercises for violinists and violists. Today there are many classic books with thirds, sixths, octaves, etc., by such composers as Schradieck, Ševĉik, Flesch, and Dounis. However, none of these wonderful collections features a systematic series of fixed double-stops that enables the aspiring violinist or violist to practice and master every possible combination of finger patterns across two strings without shifting.”

Dr. Roland Vamos also outlines the purpose of this method: “So what exactly do I hope the student that carefully studies these exercises will accomplish? Perhaps the most important accomplishment is the development of a strong left hand that is set up so that the fingers rise and drop consistently landing on the same part of the finger. The first joint of each will hopefully develop strength and flexibility while the thumb gently supports the side of the neck without tension. These exercises, when practiced slowly and carefully, should also help to develop a keen sense of pitch and intonation.” For intermediate players.

Forest Incantations
Alan Lee Silva

Forest Incantations
From the opening ensemble marcato accents and the driving sixteenth-note unisons in the low strings, Forest Incantations is a compelling musical statement from the very beginning. This active, “edge of your seat” composition provides all sections of the string orchestra with unique and satisfying musical challenges. This is one of Alan Silva's best to date.
