Standard sets of parts and large size full scores are sold as separate items for ease of use and ordering. Wind Band Select publications are showcased on the newly-launched website www.windbandselect.com with complete recordings and PDF files of scores, to enable conductors to study these new cutting-edge works before purchasing. The site will also serve as a portal for wind band conductors to discover other outstanding works in the Carl Fischer Music and Theodore Presser Company rental catalogs.
Titles currently available in the series are Suite from China West by Chen Yi (115-40201M - Set of Parts: $125.00, 115-40201F - Score: $45.00) and Hold This Boy and Listen by Carter Pann (115-40202M – Set of Parts: $95.00, 115-40202F – Score: $25.00). Suite for China West, written in four movements, was commissioned by the Metropolitan Wind Symphony in 2005, and was premiered on May 18, 2008, conducted by Lewis J. Buckley at the National Heritage Museum in Lexington, MA. The authentic folk music from China West has amazed and inspired the composer to write this piece, which has folk music elements drawn from the folk songs of various peoples from the China West. Hold This Boy and Listen was commissioned by the Colorado Wind Ensemble and inspired by Carter Pann’s young nephew, David Paulus, Jr. Unusually quiet and subdued for a wind band composition, it will prove to be a great exercise in restraint for developing players. Hold This Boy and Listen has also just been added to the Texas UIL required music list.
