Ear Training for Trumpet
David Vining
Foreword by David R. Hickman
Trumpet
Carl Fischer Music WF82 • $14.95 |
| David Vining’s Ear Training for Trumpet is one of the first methods to integrate performance on the instrument with singing to enable the player to internalize the music. Written by David Vining, a leading brass educator with extensive orchestral, chamber, and solo performance experience, Ear Training for Trumpet is a comprehensive and progressively organized method for improving the ear of students on any brass instrument. In turn, this brings marked improvement in tone, intonation, pitch accuracy, and musical understanding. The book contains more than 70 exercises in pitch, scales, arpeggios, and intervals, including melodious etudes and orchestral excerpts. A brass equivalent of the ear training method is long overdue, and this book is appropriate for not only young students, but brass students of all ages. |

Twenty-four Virtuoso Etudes
Venjamin Sher
Violin
Carl Fischer Music BF48 • $19.95 |
| Carl Fischer Music presents the first U.S. edition of violin pedagogue Venjamin Sher’s Twenty-four Virtuoso Etudes. Previously available only in Russia, Venjamin Sher’s violin etudes, written between 1954 and 1959, are acclaimed and required literature for all violinists in the former Soviet Union. First published by the Compozitor Publishing House of St. Petersburg, Sher’s etudes reflect a lifetime of experience as a performer and teacher. This collection sets itself apart from other instructional compilations in that it incorporates new forms and textures discovered by the composer, and while practicality is its focus, artistic value is never compromised, drawing from the example of etude collections by Nicolo Paganini and Henryk Wieniawski. This beautiful new edition is edited by esteemed professor of violin Klimenty Veksler, who also lends valuable insight with a foreword. Students and professional violinists alike will find Sher’s Twenty-four Virtuoso Etudes greatly useful in honing both technique and expression. |
