Located in New York City, the company maintains its own production, marketing, sales and copyright & licensing departments. We also assist many orchestras, ensembles and universities throughout the world with our music rental and custom print departments.

Production


Production/Graphic Design Assistant

Carl Fischer is seeking a Production Assistant with and emphasis on graphic design


Responsibilities include:

  • Updating publications (covers and content) using InDesign and Photoshop
  • Processing books for publication (PDFs from authors and in-house engravers) and preparing parts
  • Acting as liaison with outside printers (communicating with printing managers and following up on sent files)
  • Maintaining ever-updating archives on cross-platform network
  • Following templates with strict style parameters
  • Creating templates with style sheets and make them usable for other designers
  • Understand, interpret and communicate ideas verbally and visually
  • See projects through from concept to pre-press


Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree, preferably in graphic design, visual arts or similar
  • Ideally 2 years experience in print media
  • Knowledge of or background in (classical) music a plus
  • At least basic understanding of music notation
  • Knowledge of art and music history
  • Mac OS X professional
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Collaborate effectively with other creative professionals
  • Proficient with current versions of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and MS Office (Excel and Word)
  • Knowledge of HTML and/or some kind of programming language a plus


Compensation will depend upon prior experience. Excellent benefits package offered after 3 months of employment.

Data Entry Clerk/Sales Administrator

Carl Fischer is seeking a Data Entry Clerk for the Sales Department.


Responsibilities include:

  • Entering customer orders in the company’s database
  • Entering data of sales orders and production orders
  • Billing and inventory tracking/updating
  • Maintaining database by entering new and updated customer and account information
  • Verifying entered customer and account data by reviewing, correcting, deleting or reentering data
  • Analyzing and reporting business results and trends
  • Working in a sales-driven and results-oriented environment
  • Possibility to move into a more sales oriented position and represent the company’s print music catalog for retailers (B2B)


Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree, major/minor in music a plus
  • Knowledge/background in classical and/or educational music essential
  • Ability to work independently and on own initiative
  • Ability to multi task and to follow instructions
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Highly motivated to achieve goals
  • Extraordinary customer service commitment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Accounting


Accounting Clerk

Carl Fischer’s sister company, Theodore Presser, is seeking an Accounting Clerk. This position is based in King of Prussia, PA.


Responsibilities include:

  • A/P: Entering invoices into accounting system; matching invoices to goods received; coordinating with departments for payments; checking costs
  • A/R: Making collection calls and managing customer payment issues; sending monthly statements; making bank deposits; assembling daily cash receipts
  • Assisting with administrative tasks
  • Reports to Accounting Manager


Requirements:

  • Accounting skills
  • General knowledge of accounts payable, collections, and cash management
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Works and especially Excel and other database applications (Microsoft Dynamics NAV)
  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities and solve problems with very little supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details
  • Ability to work in a team and willingness to assist others as needed, all with a positive attitude
  • College degree preferred
  • Knowledge of music, in particular classical music, a plus

Internships


Internship Program

Carl Fischer Music is offering students the opportunity to enhance their resume with real work experience. This is a great opportunity for students looking to gain hands-on knowledge and experience in the music publishing industry.


During the school year (summer, fall, and spring semesters), interns may work as many hours as they wish, with a minimum of 15-20 hours a week for at least 6 weeks (dates are flexible). Summer internships are up to full-time, 20-40 hours a week, for a minimum of 6 weeks (dates are flexible). All interns will receive a stipend of $4.00 an hour, as well as a reduced fare Metrocard to assist in transportation expenses. If applicable, this internship can also be used for college credit.

  • Royalties


The successful candidate will be a current undergraduate or graduate student who is motivated and passionate about (classical) music and the arts, experienced in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Excel and Word), possesses excellent communication skills, and the ability to learn new projects and procedures quickly. While candidates do not need to be a music student, some experience with music is helpful and some tasks require a basic knowledge of music.
