Carl Fischer Music is one of the country's oldest educational and classical music publishers. Located in New York City, the company maintains its own production, marketing, sales and copyright & licensing departments. We also assist many orchestras, ensembles and universities throughout the world with our music rental and custom print departments.

We are currently hiring for the following positions:





Accounting Clerk

Responsibilities include:

  • A/P: Entering invoices into accounting system; matching invoices to goods received; coordinating with departments for payments; checking costs
  • A/R: Making collection calls and managing customer payment issues; sending monthly statements; making bank deposits; assembling daily cash receipts
  • Assisting with administrative tasks
  • Reports to Accounting Manager


  • Accounting skills
  • General knowledge of accounts payable, collections, and cash management
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Works and especially Excel and other database applications (Microsoft Dynamics NAV)
  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities and solve problems with very little supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details
  • Ability to work in a team and willingness to assist others as needed, all with a positive attitude
  • College degree preferred
  • Knowledge of music, in particular classical music, a plus

Compensation will depend upon prior experience. Full-time position that offers an attractive benefits package after three months, which includes paid vacation and holidays, a 401-K plan, health insurance, life insurance, short-term disability insurance and employee discounts.

Internship Program

Carl Fischer Music is offering students the opportunity to enhance their resume with real work experience. This is a great opportunity for students looking to gain hands-on knowledge and experience in the music publishing industry.

During the school year (summer, fall, and spring semesters), interns may work as many hours as they wish, with a minimum of 15-20 hours a week for at least 6 weeks (dates are flexible). Summer internships are up to full-time, 20-40 hours a week, for a minimum of 6 weeks (dates are flexible). All interns will receive a stipend of $4.00 an hour, as well as a reduced fare Metrocard to assist in transportation expenses. If applicable, this internship can also be used for college credit.

  • Royalties

The successful candidate will be a current undergraduate or graduate student who is motivated and passionate about (classical) music and the arts, experienced in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Excel and Word), possesses excellent communication skills, and the ability to learn new projects and procedures quickly. While candidates do not need to be a music student, some experience with music is helpful and some tasks require a basic knowledge of music.
