The Footlifter (March)

Another self-recommending concert edition of a classic Fillmore march by Robert Foster, The Footlifter is a brisk march in compound time (6/8). It canters along a nice clip, tossing off a bouquet of tunes and counter themes with Fillmore's usual careless abandon. The trio melody has a delicious swing to it and the final version of the theme, steals back (after a brief percussion break) for a "piano" appearance before the fully scored and rousing conclusion. This is a genuine masterpiece of the march genre.
