Scherza Amarilli e Clori was written in 1600 for the wedding of Gabrieli’s close friend Georg Gruber, a Tuscan nobleman. It was originally scored for a chorus of six voices: two sopranos, alto, tenor, baritone and bass voices. Unlike many of his works that were written for performance in Italy’s St. Mark’s Cathedral, this piece is not antiphonal in nature. This transcription was taken from the complete works (Giovani Gabrieli Opera Omnia, Volume XII: Madrigalia, edited by Denis Arnold, American Institute of Musicology, Hänssler-Verlag, 1974). Editorial additions have been kept to a minimum: the slurs were taken from the text, while the dynamics are suggested by both the text and texture of the music. Musical interpretations should bear in mind that the work is vocal in nature. Dur.: 3’

Indie pop singer/songwriter Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek has been inventively arranged by Vicky Greenbaum for small brass ensemble. A strikingly unique and contemporary song, its YouTube video has been viewed more than 4.7 million times. This arrangement is not technically difficult – but it does present musical challenges in terms of nuance and inflection. Trumpeters may use bucket mutes if flugelhorns are not available, but open trumpets would not be appropriate. This would be a unique piece for a brass recital and is also playable by advance high school students, who will no doubt greet it with enthusiasm. This revised edition contains MP3 recordings of all etudes performed by Grammy Award-winner Christopher Moore, Professor of Trumpet at Florida State University.

A staple in brass methods, Melodious Etudes for Trombone, Book 1 has been re-engraved, corrected by pedagogue Alan Raph, and printed with a lay-flat binding for ease of use. Additionally, Bordogni’s original piano accompaniments, written specially for the vocalises, are presented with these etudes for the first time. As a bonus, the edition now includes a CD containing MP3s and printable PDFs of the original piano accompaniments, performed by Rae Moses. These etudes, transcribed from the vocalises of Bordogni, have been specially prepared for use by trombonists in order to perfect their overall technique and in particular to develop style in the interpretation of melody.

A faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, composer, teacher and performer Lauren Bernofsky wrote this work as her doctoral dissertation for Boston University. The composer decided to write for trumpet citing its clear, brilliant sound, but also with the desire to contribute a more "meaty" concerto to the trumpet’s library. In three movements, the composer attempts to create variety in the piece through different textures. Originally orchestrated for a classical-size orchestra with double winds and brass, the piano reduction was commissioned by trumpeter Mary L. Thornton as part of her doctoral dissertation project at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This work received its piano reduction premiere on July 28, 2001 in Madison, Wisconsin, with Mary Thornton as soloist, and its orchestral premiere on August 12, 2001 in Bergen, Norway, with Gary Peterson as so loist. This volume contains the complete works from Thomas Morley’s First Book of Canzonets for Two Voices. They are comprised of nine instrumental fantasies and twelve pieces with lyrics that could have been sung, played on instruments or a combination of the two. The instrumental works were most likely played on viols or recorders. Mark Dulin has adapted these works for trumpet, and since the original works do not indicate dynamics, tempo markings or articulation, he has elected to exclude them here as well. Playing a few of these pieces as a suite would be excellent for performance, and they are also useful tools in studying intonation, imitation and early music performance.
