J. Jerome Williams is a native of Morganton, NC where his high school band director and major musical influence was noted NC composer, M. Thomas Cousins. Mr. Williams studied music at Mars Hill College (AA), East Carolina, and Appalachian State University (BS, MA), all in North Carolina. He worked in the Burke County Schools (NC) for 32 years as band and choral director and Cultural Arts Coordinator. Following his retirement he taught at Mars Hill College (now University) and continues to work with the high-profile Choral Festival there.
Mr. Williams is a former NC Teacher of the Year and the 1991 recipient of the Lara Hoggard award from the NC-ACDA for Distinguished Service in Choral Music in North Carolina. In 2013 he was inducted into the NC High School Choral Hall of Fame. He is a member of numerous professional organizations and continues to be active as a choral conductor. He has 45 years experience as a church choir director and is Chancel Choir Director Emeritus of First United Methodist Church, Hickory, NC.
