Most Americans became familiar with the Scottish folk song Auld Lang Syne because of Guy "Mr. New Year's Eve" Lombardo and his long-running New Year's Eve Party on CBS. But it was Victor Herbert who used the tune to magnificent effect in his Festival March a generation earlier. The March proved to be very popular and Herbert kept it for his own use for many years, only finally allowing its publication. A performance by Cleveland POPS is available on YouTube.
