Quick Overview

Prolegomenon: A preliminary statement or discussion, especially introducing a work of length or complexity.

"Prolegomenon" was written at the request of Hajime Teri Murai to be a concert-opener for the Peabody Symphony Orchestra. It is a boisterous, overture-like work in which a meditative, amorphous andante alternates with raucous allegro and presto sections. And while its harmonic language is far from common-practice, it is meant to immediately precede the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1, which will come to some listeners as a relief, and to others as a logical consequent to this brief prolegomenon.
