Written as a companion for Mr. Schuman?s opera ?The Mighty Casey,? A QUESTION OF TASTE was successfully paired with the former in its world premiere by the Glimmerglass Opera in June, 1989, in Cooperstown, NY.
The story of two young lovers whose future is almost thwarted by a wager, between the young lady?s ambitious father and a dinner guest who is a wine expert, over the identity of a wine, in which the girl is to be the prize if the guest wins. The guest is defeated, however, and the story ends happily, with the young couple reunited.
