Amy Barlowe, violinist, composer, and arranger, received her B.M. and M.M. degrees in violin performance from the Juilliard School after studies with Ivan Galamian and Margaret Pardee. Her chamber music coaches included Josef Gingold, Felix Galimir, Samuel Rhodes and Earl Carlyss, and among her theory teachers were Vincent Persichetti and Hal Overton.
Ms. Barlowe’s original compositions and arrangements have been performed internationally, receiving wide acclaim. They include works for solo violin; two violins and piano; an opera ballet; a Requiem Mass; and a Magnificat. Her two Celtic duos for two violas, appear on a CD recorded by the Aureole Trio released on the Koch International label. She was on the Artist/Faculty of the Meadowmount School of Music from 1988-2013 and has been a faculty member at N.Y.C’s School For Strings. She has also taught at the Juilliard Pre-College; as well as at the Estherwood and Bowdoin Summer Music Festivals; Willamette University, in Salem, Oregon; and the Ohio Conservatory. Additionally, Ms. Barlowe founded a vibrant and highly acclaimed chamber orchestra called “Akron Baroque” which has given numerous performances of historically informed music of the Baroque period.
