Format:

This collection, compiled and edited by Marion Feldman, is dedicated to the legacy of Mstislav Rostropovich. The nine works presented were performed throughout his career and reflect his depths of virtuosity and interpretation. The pieces include eighteenth-century classics from Popper and Goltermann, and Russian romantic works by Tchaikovsky, Cui and Rimsky-Korsakov, and Rachmaninoff. All pieces are newly engraved and contain updated fingerings and bowings. Unique to this edition are a collection of rarely seen photos, as well as two interviews with Maestro Rostropovich and his daughter, Olga. A befitting tribute to the beloved virtuoso, artist and statesmen and a welcome addition to any musical library.

Dedication: I would like to express my deep appreciation to the many people who have helped to make the Legacy series possible: Marta Istomin, Bonnie Hampton, Clive Greensmith, David Geber, Julia Lichten, Robert Sirota, Madeleine Golz, Ernst-Simon Glaser, Tanja Betchler, and many others for their enthusiastic approval of the Casals Legacy. Jessica Chen in Taiwan and Soo Ah Nam in Korea for personally helping to get the Casals book (The Casals Legacy, published by Carl Fischer Music, catalogue number BF60) out to young cellists around the world. Leta Edelson, Grace Feldman, Jerome Feldman and my dear friends in SGI / USA who encouraged me onwards in this endeavor. I thank Patricia A. Winter from Opus3 Artists Management and Debra Kinzler from Manhattan School of Music for the use of photos in the Rostropovich Legacy. I am also tremendously indebted to Tim Janof for his generosity in letting us publish in this volume his two inspiring interviews; one with Slava and the other with Slava’s daughter, Olga. 5
