Lee R. Kesselman was Director of Choral Activities at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, a suburb of Chicago, since 1981. He was Founder and Music Director of the New Classic Singers, a professional choral ensemble. In addition to teaching and composing, Mr. Kesselman is active as a conductor, pianist, clinician and adjudicator, and music director for a variety of opera and musical theatre productions. He has served on the faculty of the Choral Music Experience Institute for Teacher Training since its inception in 1986.
Kesselman’s works incorporate a wide-variety of musical styles and traditions, including original art-songs, Scottish folk-song settings, music with African influence, and Hebrew melodies, and display craft and invention that encompass a broad range of musical inspiration.
Kesselman, best known as a composer of vocal works including opera, music for chorus, and solo songs, is also the author of works for solo and instrumental ensembles. His works for young voices have brought him national attention. He is frequently commissioned to write for children’s choirs, middle/junior high school, high school, college, community, church, and professional ensembles and all voicings.
