Tom Council graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas with a BM and MM in Music Education. He began his teaching career in Dallas ISD in 1965 and taught high school choir in Dallas and Mesquite, Texas for thirty years. After retirement, he taught composition and vocal techniques part time at the Dallas Arts Magnet High School. He was a church music director in four area churches for 49 years.
He was active in the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association and ACDA where he served as Southwest Chair for the Jazz and Show Choir committee. His choirs also performed at ACDA and TCDA conventions.
An active arranger and composer for school and church, he has published works with Carl Fischer Music as well as other publishers. He has also been writing choral sight reading music for Texas choral contests since 1990. For more information on Tom, visit his website at www.tomcouncil.com
