Mr. Carter is a 1982 graduate of Valdosta High school in Valdosta, Georgia. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Valdosta State University in 1986. Mr. Carter is currently a retire music educator. At his last teaching position, Mr. Carter was the Director of Bands and Choirs at Ware County Middle School on Waycross, Georgia. He also served as Assistant director and visual Coordinator for the Golden Gator Marching Band. Alan has been directing beginning, middle school and high school bands and choirs for the last thirty-three years in Georgia. During that time, his bands and choirs have received superior ratings in State contests and festivals. Mr. Carter was selected as the 2014–2015 “Teacher of the Year” for Ware County Middle School.
Prior to Ware County, Mr. Carter spent twenty-six years in Brooks County, where he was the Director of Bands at Brooks County Middle School and worked with the Brooks County Marching Trojan Regiment where he was the Assistant Director and Visual/Auxiliary Coordinator. In 2006, Mr. Carter was chosen as “Teacher of the Year” for Brooks County Middle School.
He has served as guest clinician throughout the southeast and has served on judging panels at various musical venues. Mr. Carter has also done musical arranging for marching bands, concert bands and church choirs as well as solo and ensemble music.
Currently Mr. Carter is a member of Faith Baptist Church in Valdosta where he has served as Music Director for the forty-plus years. He also serves as music consultant for several school systems across South Georgia. He has been rehearsal pianist, lead keyboardist and conductor for several theatre programs including Valdosta State University, Jekyll Island State Theatre, Waycross Area Community Theatre and Peach State Summer Theatre. Mr. Carter also has a private studio where he teaches piano, wind instruments and voice. Students he has taught have won state, nation and international competitions.
